Bhubaneswar: The Konark Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court on Thursday turned down the bail plea of Abhijit Iyer Mitra in connection with his alleged derogatory remarks against the Konark Sun Temple and Odisha’s culture.
Following the rejection of his bail plea, Iyer was sent to Nimapara sub-jail. He will stay in the judicial custody till November 5, it was leant.
On Wednesday, the Bhubaneswar SDJM court had allowed the Konark police to take Iyer on a four-day remand for interrogation.
Earlier on Tuesday, Iyer appeared before the House Committee headed by Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra over breach of privilege. Later, he was arrested by the Commissionerate police in connection with a criminal case filed against him at Saheed Nagar Police Station.
Iyer has been booked under IPC Sections 294, 295A, 153A, 500, 506 and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
The Konark Police has registered a case under Sections 153A, 295A, 298 and 34 of the IPC and Section 66 of the IT Act against Iyer, based on a complaint filed by one Bimbadhar Goura of Konark area, for his derogatory remarks on the Sun Temple in a video which he had posted on his Tweeter account.
