Uri (Jammu and Kashmir): The Uri police on Wednesday nabbed at least five persons in the gruesome gangrape and murder of a nine-year-old girl here. The arrested persons include the victim’s stepmother and 14-year old step-brother.
According to police officials, on the basis of interrogation and forensic examinations, it was proved that the girl was gang-raped, strangled, struck with an axe and acid poured on her body.
The girl, a resident of a local village, went missing on August 24 and all efforts to trace her failed. Her mutilated body was found on 2nd September in a forest area, a kilometre away from her house.
The police revealed to the media that during the investigation, it was learnt that someone from the family was involved. Later, it was found that the girl’s stepmother and stepbrother, and three others were involved in the crime.
The cops claimed that the stepmother of the victim was the mastermind behind the murder plot, as she was jealous that her husband spent more time with his second wife.
On the day of the murder, the accused stepmother took the victim along with her to the nearby forest when she asked the victim’s stepbrother to wait. The girl was allegedly gang-raped in the presence of the stepmother.
After being raped by her stepbrother and his friends, the girl was strangled and hacked to death with an axe. Moreover, the perpetrators then poured acid on the girl’s body before dumping it in the bushes.
“A charge sheet will be filed against the accused at the earliest,” said the cops.
