5 High-Performance Centres to Boost Sports in Odisha Launched

Bhubaneswar: In a continuous bid to promote sports and sports culture within the state, the Odisha government launched five High-Performance centres on Monday.

The launching ceremony was held at the Kalinga Stadium here with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gracing the occasion as Chief Guest and several dignitaries in attendance.

On the occasion, the CM also inaugurated the sports climbing wall and felicitated 162 outstanding sportspersons from the state with cash awards.

The day witnessed launching of five-structured, high-quality, international level high-performing centres for Badminton by Dalmia Bharat & Pullela Gopichand Badminton Foundation, Athletics by Reliance Foundation, Athletics Federation of India and International Association of Athletics Federation, Weightlifting by KJS Ahluwalia & Tenvic Sports, Football development in the state by All India Football Federation & Odisha sports development & promotion company and Sports Management by the XAVIER-EMLYON Business School & KJS Ahluwalia.

Moreover, the felicitation ceremony recognised the efforts and achievements of 162 players from different sports categories, who bought accolades for the state with their remarkable performances throughout the year at different national events.

Some of the cash payments given out included- Pramoda Bhagat, Para-Badminton, Rs 70,00,000, Jayanti Behera, Para-Athletics, Rs 60,00,000, Prachurya Kumar Pradhan, Blind Chess, Rs 20,00,000, and Soundarya Kumar Pradhan, Blind Chess, Rs 20,00,000.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said, “Today is a historic day for Sports development in Odisha as a state that’s passionate about sports, we understand how beneficial the opening of these High-performance centers is to a sportsman as well as the Nation. I am delighted to dedicate these centers to the sports loving people of Odisha, and I thank every one of you associated with this initiative and for joining us in the journey of making Odisha- the Sports destination of India.”

The aforementioned players of Women Football Team have been felicitated today and a cash award of Rs 30, 000 each.

KIYG, Pune Bronze Medal Winners

Manisha Merel-Athletics, Pratyasha Ray-Swimming and Rajesh Kumar Sahoo-Judo. These three players were awarded a cash prize of Rs 17,000.

Sabyasachi Minz, Laban Lugun, Liban Ekka, Prashant Lakra, Bikash Kujur, Deepak Ekka, Sudeep Minz, Birsa Xalxo, George Tirkey, Mangal Lohar, Akash Tirkey, Sunil Jojo, Sushant Toppo, Sunit Lakra, Sudeep Chirmako, Rohit Xaxa, Roshanjeet Minz and Paulus Lakra. Each of these players was awarded a cash reward of Rs 8,500.

Similarly, 17 players of Hockey Girl’s Team, 11 players of Kho-kho girl’s team were awarded Rs 8,500 each. Besides, 28 players were awarded cash prizes in the Outstanding Sports Persons for 2017-18.
