40 school kids walk miles to meet Malkangiri Collector at midnight

Malkangiri: At least 40 school students of Tarlakota residential school under Korukonda block in Malkangiri district walked for miles late last night in order to apprise the District Collector about their poor living condition in the hostel.

According to sources, the students of the government-run residential school alleged that the hostel authorities did not provide them with food last night and left them to starve. They also complained about the absence of a superintendent at the hostel.

With no options left, as many as 40 students jumped over the boundary wall of the hostel and started walking towards the collectorate, which is nearly  25 km away.

The students were on their way when a few locals spotted them and alerted the police about the matter. Cops immediately reached the spot and sent the students back to the hostel in an auto-rickshaw.

The police also discussed the issue with the hostel authorities, following which dinner was prepared and served to the children after midnight.

Later, the district welfare officer also reached the spot and assured the students that the necessary steps regarding their problems will be taken soon.
