26 dead in dust storms, lightning strikes in Uttar Pradesh


Lucknow: As many as 26 people were reportedly killed as severe dust storms and lightning strikes hit different parts of Uttar Pradesh.

The dust storms and lightning hit different places in 11 districts of the state on Friday night causing the death of 26 people.

According to sources, Jaunpur and Sultanpur reported five deaths each while four deaths were reported from Unnao. Similarly, three each died in Chandauli and Bahraich, two in Rae Bareli and one each in Mirzapur, Sitapur, Amethi and Pratapgarh.

Although the dust storm had also hit Kannauj, no casualty was reported from the district so far.

Taking note of the tragedy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district magistrates of the concerned districts to immediately provide compensation to the family members of those killed in the dust storm and lightning strikes. He warned the officials that no laxity would be tolerated.
