Bhubaneswar: As the 2019 general elections draw closer, the State Election Commission has started preparations and asked the district collectors to submit estimates regarding expenses for the polls.
“It is a routine process. The collectors have been directed to submit a report over various poll-related expenses such as transportation of the poll parties and preparation of booths and strong rooms,” said Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha Surendra Kumar.
Kumar said the process to set up strong rooms in all the districts has also started as per the instructions of the Election Commission of India (ECI).
“The collectors have also been directed to inform about the status of the strong rooms. Besides, the collectors were asked to launch door-to-door campaign for awareness of the voters,” Kumar said.
Sources said VVPATs will be used during the next general elections in the state. Kumar has also asked the state works department to allot rooms for the safekeeping of the EVMs and VVPATs.
As the election commission sounded the poll bell, the three major parties in the state—BJD, BJP and Congress—also started preparation to ensure a solid vote bank. While BJD spokesperson Pratap Dev said the party is always ready for the polls, the BJP also started to chalk out strategies to win 120 plus seats in the state.
