Phulbani: Health schemes of both Centre and state governments are failing, specially in Kandhamal. Child mortality rate is rising in the district with over 2000 children dead in the last two years.
Despite schemes like Janani Suraksha, National Child Health programme of the Centre and Mamata scheme in the state, the reach of the facilities is doubtful.
In 2015, within January to December, 14,499 children were born of which 499 perinatal deaths were recorded including 266 male children and 233 female children and later 475 neo natal and post neo natal deaths were recorded the same year.
In 2016, there were 15,000 child births of which there were 502 perinatal deaths and 454 neo natal and post neo natal deaths. As per a social worker Ashok Parida, these figures of the municipal office are much less than the original deaths.
The numbers clearly show the inefficiency in the reach of the various maternal and child heath care schemes.
