2 labourers killed, 1 critical in stone quarry blast in Rourkela
Rourkela: At least two labourers were killed and another sustained critical injury in stone blasting explosion that took place accidentally in Jalda stone quarry near here on Thursday.
The deceased have been identified as Ram Prasad Lohar (27) of Jalda A Block and Jagannath Samari (28) of Patabeda village while the injured one is Edwin Topno (18).
The mishap took place at around 7 am this morning while stone blasting activity was underway at Jalda A Block quarry.
Unaware of the blasting, the victim labourers reached near a blasting site and unfortunately the explosives fixed there went off suddenly killing two on the spot.
Critically injured Edwin was rushed to Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) and his condition is stated to be critical.
Jalda Police has reached the spot and started investigation into the incident.
Villagers claimed that a number of stone quarries are operating illegally in the area flouting all safety rules. They demanded immediate action against the stone mafias who are responsible for today’s mishap.
