12-hr Kendrapara bandh tomorrow; schools to remain closed


Kendrapara: Following communal tension between two communities in Kendrapara town on Wednesday, the ‘Kendrapara Rashtriya Surakhya Samiti’ has called for a 12-hour band in the town tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the district administration has announced the closure of all educational institutions under Kendrapara Municipality jurisdiction on Thursday.

As preventive measures, police personnel have been deployed in the town and the internet services have been disabled, Kendrapara ADM Basant Rout told media person this evening.

The prohibitory order under Section 144 clamped in the town today will remain in force till normalcy is restored, Rout further said.

Addressing a press meet this evening, convenor of the outfit, Sanjay Kumar Patri said, “The ‘Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’, Kendrapara, had organised a function at the Government High School ground here to mark the birth anniversaries of Veer Surendra Sai and Netaji Subash Chandra Bose.

“However, opposition by a community has hurt the sentiments of the people of the district, who were even deprived of offering floral tribute to the ‘Sons of the Soil’, on their birth anniversary,” he stated.

Condemning the act by the community, the outfit has called dawn to dusk bandh in Kendrapara.
