12-hour bandh hits normal life in Mayurbhanj
Baripada: 12-hour bandh called by Mayurbhanj Adivasi Revolutionary Youth & Student Association (MARYSA) demanding Santali University in the district has badly affected normal life in Baripada of Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday.
Most of the shops and business establishments remained closed while both government and private offices, educational institutions also remained closed.
Hundreds of vehicles including trucks and buses were stranded on both sides of National Highway-18 as the agitators staged a road blockade at Murgabadi and several other places in the district.
According to some agitators, Santali language is being spoken by the tribals in various parts of the district as well as in other parts of the state. So, the district administration should set up a dedicated university for the interests of the tribal community.
