12-hour bandh hits normal life in Bheden
Bargarh: A 12-hour bandh called by farmers of Jai Kisan Andolan to protest against non-payment of crop insurance money, hit the normal life in Bheden block of Bargarh district on Thursday.
The agitators staged road blockades by burning tyres at several places demanding immediate clearance of the crop insurance money. Following this traffic movement in the area came to a grinding halt.
The bandh which started at 6 am would continue till 6 pm. Shops, business establishments, offices, schools, and other educational institutions remained closed following the protest.
Besides, a group of farmers had locked up the Bheden Cooperative Bank since August 31 protesting non-fulfillment of their demand.
“We have been deprived of crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana since long and we demand clearance of the pending dues. As the concerned officials and administration did not take any actions, we were bound to call for the strike,” said an agitator.
The agitators have threatened to intensify the protest if the state government makes further delay in disbursing the crop loss insurance money.
