Telangana: As many as 11 people were killed and five others sustained critical burn injuries when a major fire broke out in a firecracker manufacturing unit-cum-warehouse at Kotilingala village in Warangal district in Telangana state on Wednesday.
According to sources, four fire tenders reached the spot to douse the flames that broke out. The impact of the series of blasts was such high that the entire unit was razed to the ground and nearby houses were also damaged. The bodies were charred beyond recognition.
Meanwhile, senior officials of the district administration rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
Around 30 people were employed in the unit and at least 15 to 20 were inside at the time when the fire broke out. Majority of the workers were said to be women.
The five injured were rushed to the nearby hospital. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
