1 killed, 15 hurt in separate road mishaps
Cuttack/Baripada/Balasore: One person was killed while 15 others sustained injuries in three separate road mishaps in Balasore, Baripada and Cuttack districts on Friday.
In the first instance, one person was killed while 5 others were injured after the ambulance they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck on National Highway 60 near Haladipada in Balasore district.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
The injured were immediately rushed to a local hospital but later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their conditions deteriorated.
In another incident, three persons including a shopkeeper sustained injuries as a truck rammed into a shop after hitting two electric poles at Baula bazaar near Nischintakoili police station in Cuttack district.
The injured have been admitted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Seven passengers were injured after the bus they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck at Khuntuni bazaar in Athagarh.
According to sources, the incident occurred when the bus was heading for Athagarh lost control over the wheels and collided head-on with the truck coming from the opposite direction.
The injured persons were rescued and rushed to a local hospital where their health condition is stated to be stable.
In another instance, a pharmacist travelling in an ambulance was injured as his vehicle skidded off the road and overturned near Pathara Square on Udala-Baripada road in Mayurbhanj district this morning.
Sources said the accident occurred due to dense fog.
