BJP flays murder of party worker
Bhubaneswar: The State BJP on Sunday expressed deep
concern and condemned the brutal murder of BJP activist
Sukura Oram of Chandiposh village in Bonai sub-division
of Sundargarh district by the Maoists on Saturday night.
In a statement here, state party president Jual Oram
said that the Maoists, who are trying to grab power with
the barrel of the gun, after failing to gather adequate
public support, have become revengeful and are targeting
political activists.
Earlier the Red rebels had murdered political workers
like Thomas Munda and Rabi Oram.
While the political functionaries are getting power in a
democratic manner through the ballot box, the Maoists
trying to achieve their goals through violence are
killing innocent tribals. Though the Maoists are
claiming to be fighting for the poor people, in reality
they are not friends of the poor but there only aim is
to collect extortion money from the mines, Oram said.
He also said that even though the party had warned
number of times about the increasing Maoist activities,
the state government has failed to protect the lives of
the people and the political functionaries.
Stating that nearly 30,000 people of K Balang area are
taking shelter in temporary camps fearing Maoist
onslaught, Oram said that he would write a letter to the
chief minister in this connection.
He urged the state government to make adequate security
arrangements on the Odisha-Jharkhand border and to
provide adequate security to different class of people.
He also demanded a compensation of Rs 10 lakh and a job
for the kin of Sukura Oram.
The BJP chief also announced that his party would
organise a mass agitation if the state government does
not take strong steps to protect the life and property
of the people.
